When you learn how to make your first $100 selling erotica on Amazon you will feel like you’re on Cloud 9.
In general, a lot of people have sky high goals when they begin their erotica publishing business, but when life hits them in the face, they give up way to easily.
That’s why I’m a big fan of slowing things down and setting REALISTIC expectations.
To be honest, when I first started out, all I wanted to do was prove the business model could work…that I could make just ONE sale!
That first sale I made (for $2 bucks) felt MUCH better than the first $100 or first $1,000 that I made.
I’ll never forget it. I remember that first sale like it was yesterday.
I had published the book earlier that day and then went to my friend’s house at night to watch a football game.
And during halftime I decided to check the dashboard. And lo and behold one measly little bar appeared on my dashboard…
I had gotten my first sale!
Anyways, today, I want to give you a quick high level blueprint on making your first $100 selling erotica online.
The Blueprint To Making Your First $100
Okay let’s start off my talking about your publishing schedule.
This is SUPER important and because not many new authors can stick to a publishing schedule week after week.
BUT if you can do this, you will already be ahead of 90% of your competition.
I would suggest publishing 2 stories a week with a 3,000 to 5,000 word count.
If you price your stories at $2.99 (which you should), you should net around $2 bucks per sale.
This means you need to sell 50 books to hit that first $100 bucks.
I’m not counting any potential book reads from KNEPC here (so that number could potentially be lower).
I’m also not even counting any money from paperback books or even bundled books (which can make your first $100 even easier to achieve).
But anyways, now you know your target: 50 books to sell.
Let’s say each book sells 5 units (which is typically on the low side even for complete beginners).
This means you will need to write 10 books in total to hit that $100 dollar target.
So 10 books at an average word count of 3,000 words means you will need to write around 30,000 words.
If you can average around 500 words a day (which is pretty easy – most people write more through text messages than that!), you can get there in around 60 days.
Of course, I think this little analysis is on the conservative side because of
(1) the low unit sales per book (only 5 sales per unit),
(2) no contribution from book reads/borrows under Kindle Unlimited, and
(3) no contribution from bundles or paperback books.
But it just goes to show you getting to $100 is ENTIRELY possible.
Tips to making your first $100
Alright now that I have given you the blueprint to making your first $100 selling Erotica on Amazon, I wanted to give you some tips I’ve learned along the way.
The first is keep writing. Writing is a habit.
If you get into a good habit of writing 500 or 1,000 words a day, it will become like second nature.
Yes, it’s SUPER hard at first. But don’t give up.
If you can write every single day you will achieve your goals MUCH faster.
Also, I would recommend breaking down your writing time into blocks with plenty of rest in between so you remain refreshed.
The third thing to remember is you should ALWAYS publish your book even if you think the story was “bad”.
I know many authors may not agree with me, but that’s my experience with this situation.
I can’t tell you how many books I’ve published where I thought the story was crappy and then my readers told me how good it was.
As a new author (or even writer), most people don’t have too much confidence in their writing ability. But don’t let that stop you.
9 times out of 10, it’s all in your head.
